Madhubani Art (also known as Mithila art) is a style of painting practiced in the Mithila region ( Madhubani district ) of Bihar, India. The art was traditionally practiced by female members. Artists create these paintings using a variety of mediums, including their own fingers, or twigs, brushes, nib-pens, and matchsticks. Colors are created using natural dyes and pigments such as ochre and lampblack are used for reddish brown and black respectively. It is inspired by Hindu mythology, nature, and daily life. traditional motifs are depiction of deities (like Rama, Sita, Krishna, and Lakshmi), marriage of Rama and Sita, Kohbar, Godna, fish (prosperity), lotus (purity), peacocks (love), bamboo (lineage), and the sun and moon etc. Style of this art are filled with vibrant colors, bold black outlines, geometric patterns, black borders, spirals and dots etc.
