Pichwai painting

Pichwai painting

Description

Pichwai painting is a traditional Indian devotional art form originating in Nathdwara, Rajasthan, over 400 years ago. The term Pichwai comes from the Sanskrit words pichh (back) and wai (textile hanging),a large cloth painting hung behind the idol of Lord Shrinathji, a 7-year-old manifestation of Lord Krishna, in the Shrinathji Temple. This art depicts scenes from Krishna’s life—as Raas Leela, Holi, Annakut, and his playful interactions with the gopis and cows. The paintings are characterized by vibrant colors, intricate details, and symbolic motifs like lotuses, peacocks, cows (especially the divine Kamdhenu), and the flute using naturel colors like green, pink, blue, yellow etc.
